Operafest and movie premiere

This week was filled with cultural happenings here in Longyear...

On Monday, her Majesty the Queen was supposed to pay Longyearbyen a visit on the occasion of the opening of the new opera in Oslo. For the first time, the entire Opera orchestra came to Longyearbyen.

The orchestra

Unfortunately, her Majesty apparently got a bit sick and did not show up. This did however not affect the amount of fun we had enjoying Opera highlights such as Verdi, Puccini, Strauss, Donizetti.. at Huset :D
It was a brilliant opportunity to dress up in other than outdoor clothes and scooter suits :-)

Rico, Karoline and me

On Tuesday it was already time for another cultural happening - the pre-premiere of a film shot at Svalbard.

Far North, starring amongst others Hollywood starts as Michelle Yeoh, Sean Bean and Tommy from IGP (:D) was.... terrible. Seriously - not even the great scenery could save this movie!!! And the fact that only Michelle Yeoh, the director Asif Kapadia and some of the crew but NOT Sean Bean came to Longyear to talk about the movie did not make things better :-(
